With Friends Like These is a zine born from late-night studio talks among three Pratt Institute MFA students: Claire, Monique, and Zakariya. Between studio hours, we’d gather to swap advice, art gossip, and vent about the strange duality of being an artist—supporting a community you're also competing within.
Inspired by artist rivalries like Manet and Degas or Picasso and Matisse, our inaugural issue asks: What happens when friends in art become rivals? Do they even know it? And is rivalry still relevant in today’s art world?
The zine is a space for artists to connect, vent, and laugh—an antidote to the solitude of studio practice. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
